Who we are
Qode is a free Chrome extension published by niallcodes, an independent software project operated by Florence Publishing Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom.
What Qode does
Qode turns content into QR codes — the current page's URL, or text, WiFi details, contact cards, email, SMS, phone numbers, locations and calendar events that you type — and decodes QR codes from images you choose. All of this happens locally, on your device, using code that ships inside the extension. Qode creates static QR codes: the data lives in the code itself, so it never expires and never routes through anyone's servers — including ours, because we don't have any.
What Qode collects and shares: nothing

We do not sell data, share data, or use data for advertising, profiling or creditworthiness — there is no data to do any of that with.
What's stored on your device
Qode keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), purely so the tool works the way you left it:
- Preferences — your theme (light/dark).
- History — your recent QR codes (content, type and styling), capped at 50 entries, so you can reuse them. You can delete entries individually or clear all of it from the Studio's History tab.
- A first-run flag — so the welcome tip only shows once.
This data never leaves your device. It is removed by Chrome when you uninstall the extension.
Logos you upload
When you place a logo in the center of a QR code, the image file is read into memory on your device to draw the code. It is never uploaded anywhere. If a code with a logo is saved to history, the logo is stored locally as part of that entry.
Network requests: none
Qode makes no network requests at all. The QR generation library, the decoding library and the UI fonts are all bundled inside the extension package and load from your disk. Unlike many QR extensions, Qode never sends the content of your codes to a web API to render them — which means a URL, WiFi password or phone number you encode cannot leak, even in principle.
Why Qode asks for the permissions it does
- Active tab — reads the current tab's URL, only when you open Qode, so the page you're on is instantly a QR code.
- Scripting — runs Qode's helpers on the page when you use a right-click action (decode an image, scan a screen region). Injected only on your gesture, removed when done.
- Storage — the local preferences and history described above.
- Context menus — the right-click entries for creating a QR from a page, link or selection, and for decoding images.
- Side panel — Qode's Studio (styling, scanner, history).
Qode deliberately does not request access to read all websites — it has no business there.
Third-party services
Qode's pages link to Ko-fi (optional donations) and niallcodes.com. Those sites are separate services with their own privacy policies; Qode shares no data with them — following a link is the only interaction.
Children
Qode does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. There is no data collection mechanism in the product.
Changes to this policy
If a future update ever changes how Qode handles data (for example, adding an opt-in feature that requires a network service), this policy will be updated first, the change will be described in the extension's changelog, and the Chrome Web Store data disclosures will be updated to match before release.
