Privacy Policy

The short version: Vantage has no server, no accounts, and no analytics. Everything you do in it — settings, notes, loops, playback positions — is stored in your browser and nowhere else. The one optional feature that talks to the internet (community sponsor skipping) is off by default, and even then it never sends anything that identifies you or the exact video you're watching.

What Vantage stores, and where

Vantage keeps the following data in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your device only:

Settings — your toggles, defaults, shortcuts and auto-speed rules.
Notes — the timestamped notes you write, with the video title and ID they belong to.
Saved loops and playback positions — so A→B loops and resume-where-you-left-off work. Positions are automatically deleted after 90 days.

None of this is transmitted anywhere. Uninstalling the extension deletes it all (use the panel's Backup feature first if you want to keep your notes).

What Vantage reads

To do its job, Vantage reads the YouTube page you're on: the video element (for speed, volume, screenshots), the video's title and channel (for notes and auto-speed rules), and YouTube's own transcript data (for transcript export). This happens inside your browser and stays inside your browser.

The one network feature: sponsor skipping

The optional "auto-skip sponsors" feature uses the community-run SponsorBlock database. It is off by default. When you turn it on, Vantage asks the public SponsorBlock API (sponsor.ajay.app) for skip segments using a k-anonymity lookup: the video ID is hashed on your device and only the first four characters of that hash are sent, so the API cannot tell which video you're actually watching. No cookies, no identifiers, nothing else is included. Turn the feature off and Vantage makes no network requests at all.

What Vantage does NOT do

No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting of any kind.
No accounts, sign-ins, or cloud sync.
No collection of browsing history, personal information, or YouTube account data.
No selling, sharing, or transferring of data — there is no data to sell.
No remote code, no third-party scripts, no ads.

Permissions, in plain words

Access to youtube.com — required to enhance the YouTube page. Vantage runs nowhere else.
Storage / unlimited storage — keeps your settings and notes on your device so they persist.
Clipboard write — lets "copy screenshot", "copy transcript" and "copy link" actually copy.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Vantage ever changes what data is handled, this policy will be updated before that version ships, with the change described plainly at the top.
