The Quiet Return of Long-Form Reading

In an age of infinite scroll, something unexpected is happening — readers are slowing down again.

Across the web, a small but growing group is rediscovering the pleasure of a single, uninterrupted article, free from the noise that surrounds it.

But getting there means wading through pop-ups, cookie banners, autoplaying video, and three ad units before the first paragraph even begins…

Reader mode · Speed reader · Dictionary · Highlights · Listen · AI summaries — everything in one place, nothing in your way.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is my reading data private? +
Yes. Your highlights, notes and reading list are stored locally in your browser. Lectern doesn't track your browsing history or send your pages to a server. The dictionary looks up single words via a public dictionary API, and AI summaries run entirely on your own device — no article text leaves your computer.
How do the AI summaries work? +
Lectern uses Chrome's built-in, on-device AI to generate summaries. That means they're free to run and completely private — nothing is sent to the cloud. This feature needs a recent version of Chrome on a device that meets the hardware requirements; where it isn't available, the button simply doesn't appear.
Is Pro really a one-time payment? +
Yes. Lectern Pro is a single payment of $14.99 (launch price) for lifetime access, including all future updates. No subscription, no recurring charges. You'll receive a license key by email to activate Pro on your device.
Which browsers are supported? +
Lectern works on Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers including Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi. The on-device AI summary feature is currently Chrome-only.
What happens to my highlights if I uninstall? +
Highlights and notes are stored in your browser's local storage. You can export them at any time (Pro) to Markdown, HTML or PDF so you always have your own copy.
